Fashion Accessory Trends for Women
As much fun as clothing itself is, many women believe that adding accessories is where it really gets fun. Here are a few accessory trends springing up this year. Feathers on hair accessories. While these can look ridiculous, when done properly, they can give a charming, elf-like look when done in a subtly toned headband with the feathers encircling the head like a laurel wreath. Statement jewelry. No, it isn’t quite a throwback to the 80s, but the influence is definitely there. Statement jewelry is big, powerful, “notice me” jewelry, such as an enormous pendant or eye-catching earrings. This trend will most likely carry over into fall 2009 as well. Movie star sunglasses. Big dark shades are as popular as ever this spring. Round frames are fresh looking, as are unusual takes on the classic Wayfarer design, such as white frames. But the classic tortoiseshell frame in a voluptuous, rounded off square is a style of sunglasses that looks to remain hot for a long time.
Hats are increasing in popularity for their ability to punctuate an outfit and set you apart from the crowd. A light or white straw fedora for summer over a lightweight blouse and jeans is a great look that most anyone can look good inBig, gorgeous handbags. While evenings do tend to require tiny, impractical bejeweled clutches, the rest of the time you can carry all your stuff in a substantial handbag in a tote style, or even an oversized “bowling bag” style. In classic dark leather, nothing looks better.
The Back to School Savings
by: Jocelyn Iyog
When my daughter first got glasses about a year and a half ago, I really had no idea how much abuse they would have to take. She got her glasses about a week before rehearsals started on her school’s spring musical. Between learning the big dance numbers and the roughhousing that goes on when you put enough 10-year-olds in a room together, I watched her brand new glasses gradually deteriorate. First a few scratches on one lens, then the other, and then one of the side pieces came apart, and by the end of the school year they were held together by adhesive tape. Replacing them cost $180.She managed to keep the replacement pair intact, but now she’s growing like a weed and they don’t fit so well. I was poking around on the Internet one day and saw an article about Zenni Optical on TV where you could order glasses online for like $8. And I thought, well, that’s $8 for the frames, then they’ll gouge you on the lenses and try to upsell you on a bunch of extras.
Nope.
You can get a complete pair of glasses for $8. There’s another $4.95 shipping, but that’s it. The only thing we didn’t have that we needed for the order was the number for “pupilary distance.” We had a copy of her prescription, but it didn’t have the pupilary distance written on it. But all it took was a call to the optometrist to get the right number. It took just under 2 weeks for them to arrive, and she loved them. In fact, she plans to set aside part of her allowance so she can get another pair before next semester. Anyway, high five to zenni optical. Here’s a picture of the glasses we got her.

And if she breaks them, and I have to make her pay for the next pair herself, she can actually do it without any financial help from her dad and me.
