How to Apply Nail Designs
It is important that you master some basic nail care techniques before attempting any of the countless nail design methods that are available to you. Following these simple steps will go a long way to guaranteeing that your nails have that special look that only a professional manicure can produce.
In order to keep things relatively simple, let’s concentrate on the most common nail design styles, applying appliqués and air brush techniques.
Simple nail polish designs:
• Start out by preparing your nails properly.
• Be sure that your nails are thoroughly clean and that the surfaces have been buffed, making them a smooth as possible.
• Make sure all of your tools are close at hand… q-tips; acetone or nail polish remover; toothpicks; tweezers and fine tipped brushes.
• Begin with base coat. Many people are satisfied with just one layer of base coat, however, for stronger nails, two layers are preferred. Just make sure you allow each coat to get completely dry before applying the next.
• Draw your design outline with a fine tipped brush. You must allow the polish to get dry before going on to the next step to avoid smearing.
• Use your chosen colors to fill in the design. For a swirled design, work fast and drag through the polish with a toothpick while the polish is still wet.
• Set your appliqués in place with the tweezers after the nails are completely dry. Then press it in place and apply a layer of topcoat.
• Always finish your design with a clear top coat. As with the base coat, two layers are best, but remember to let each coat dry thoroughly before you begin to apply the next one.
