London Fashion
by: Jocelyn Iyog
Everyone thinks of Paris as the fashion capital of the world, and perhaps it is. After all, that is where the legendary Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves St. Laurent, and Cristobal Balenciaga made their amazing creations. And one of the first things people notice when walking around Paris is how magnificently well dressed everyone is. The Parisian rule of thumb is to buy fewer, higher quality items that last for years, and it’s a good strategy.
But frankly Paris can be intimidating to women who think outside the shoebox. These women should visit London.
London has an edgier, funkier vibe than Paris, and Londoners manage to make things work that you’d never imagine, like a sequined swing top over ripped vintage jeans and rubber rain boots. For those of us who love fashion but don’t have the budget for a lot of new clothing, Nothing Hill is a fantastic neighborhood to shop in London. It’s full of thrift shops that sell some fabulous, one-of-a-kind garments, and the environment is the opposite of intimidating.
Londoners are very accepting of real personal style, even if it defies convention. For people who really “own” their look, London is a great place to go, not just for the great shopping, but for the great “catwalks” that double as city pavements.
